We understand that designing a bathroom space can be challenging. Especially to a homeowner who has had little to no design training. Quite often homeowners who enjoy designing their own space, seek out a sense of balance from modern to traditional elements. Because we love the upscale look of modernistic design, but love to feel at home in a traditional space, it can the difficult to find elements that give us that balance. Because we most commonly review and critique kitchen and bath products, we decided to delve into this idea of traditional/modern blend. We immediately started with Kraus. Kraus is a well knows designer of Kitchen and bath products. Kraus has a unique way, taking ideas from teams of designers, artists, and sculptors, to design products. These products often bring artistic spins on everyday items, like sinks and faucets, and address both the design of the item as well as the items functionality and usability.
The Sleek Round Ceramic Vessel Sink (model KCS-40) is a prime example of Kraus’s unique way of merging traditional design with modern and contemporary design. While some of Kraus designs take a modern material, like metal, and design it into a traditional shape, the Sleek Round Ceramic Vessel Sink, uses a traditional material and molds it into a contemporary design. Of course, all the while addressing, and often improving, on the items functionality and comfortability. This design of this vessel sink uses a ceramic material, which is a traditional material found in homes dating back years and years. Ceramic is a non-porous material making it ideal for bathroom spaces that are planed to experience regular usage, like guest bathrooms, or children’s bathrooms. Ceramic, because of its non porous material, is resistant to fading, staining, and any type of discoloration.

While the ceramic material suggests a traditional feel, the rest of the sink lends itself to the contemporary side of the fence. This ceramic vessel sink features a circular design which is a feminine shape, and has walls that stand at approximately five and one half inch tall. The color of this vessel also suggests a contemporary design, but white has also been used a lot in traditional design as well.
